On Tuesday, November 19th, the Lubbock City Council approved a resolution between the City and Lee Lewis Construction, Inc. which means construction of the first substation will begin immediately.

Griffith explained their decision, saying, The last thing you want to do is increase the tax rate, I mean it's the very last thing you want to do. The reason we did this, and we've talked about this for almost 2 years, is our plan for the police substations and community policing. We're already doing community policing, as you all know, and we need to be brutally honest about how great our city is, but we have big city crime issues, especially with property crime.

When asked if he thinks that ERCOT will be a reliable source of power for Lubbock, Randy said that power outages are always to be expected, especially when it gets hot, but that he does believe it will be a reliable source.

"It's based on needs vs risk assessment, and those are delineated out in policy very very clearly. And it really boils down to this: The need to immediately capture the suspect has to outweigh any prevailing risk to the public from the suspects actions," Chief Stevens said.

"I think it's great that two West Texas cities are coming together to make that happen, because it's such a positive for all of West Texas, and I'm an Amarillo guy. I grew up in Amarillo, so I'm proud of the big A for making that happen," Randy said.

Randy spoke on the benefits of substations, saying, "They're going to be good looking stations. Aesthetically, they're going to be very pleasing. For you to be able to tell somebody that, by the way, this beautiful police substation is going to be within half a block or so from your home or your school, I think that makes smart marketing."
