Texas State Senator Robert Duncan (R- Lubbock) officially resigned from his senate seat today.  Last month, Duncan was hired to be the new chancellor of the Texas Tech University System, effective July 7.

Duncan was first elected to Senate District 28 in late 1996, replacing John T. Montford who was named the first chancellor of the Texas Tech University System.

Duncan will become the fourth chancellor in Texas Tech's history, replacing Kent R. Hance who will become chancellor emeritus.

The four Senate District 28 constituent offices will remain open while the senate seat remains vacant.  They are listed at the end of the article.

A special election to fill SD 28 will be called by Texas Governor Rick Perry.  Representative Charles Perry (HD 83- Lubbock- R) has already stated that he will run for the SD 28 seat.
