Tuesday on Sunrise LBK with Dave King and Tom Collins, President of Texas Tech Dr. Lawrence Schovanec joined Dave and Tom to talk about Texas Tech football and how he expects it to perform under coach McGuire, what the deal is with the pumpjacks that have appeared on campus, the Carol of Lights tonight at Tech, the PUF fund, meat judging teams, the veterinary school, and more

The conversation started with the topic of Tech football, which he said people are pretty excited for, especially since they have been playing so well over the past few games. "I was so proud of those young men. They did really well," Schovanec said. He was then asked for his thoughts on Coach McGuire. The president said that he thinks McGuire speaks for himself, saying that Tech will play defense, and be the toughest and hardest team. He went on to say that he thinks the coach is a great fit, that he brings a great feel of enthusiasm, and that going to a bowl game will be great after the players have been through a lot in the past few years.

Dr. Schovanec was also asked to speak about the pumpjacks that have appeared on the Texas Tech campus after their popularity at the games. He explained that he doesn't know who came up with the idea, perhaps Sonny Cumbie, but the players seem to get a kick out of it. Texas is the oil state, so he thinks it is fitting. Schovanec went on to say that there is a facility on the east loop with pump jacks and oil tanks to give students a first hand experience in that part of the industry. They may not get to work the rigs themselves, but they can get an idea of what is going on out in the field.

The Texas Tech Carol of Lights is tonight, and The President was asked to explain what can be expected. Schovanec explained that the Carol of Lights is a series of activities organized by student housing, such as a banquet and singing of Christmas carols, followed by Tech shutting off all the lights temporarily before turning on 25,000 lights all over the campus. He also said that it is always a big thing for the community and for Texas Tech, so he encourages everyone to come out and see it.
