On Thursday's edition of The Chad Hasty Show, Texas District 83 Representative Dustin Burrows joined the program to talk about the city of Lubbock's positioning on a proposed ordinance that would make Lubbock a sanctuary city for the unborn.

The ordinance was proposed in a letter sent to the city by Burrows, District 84 Representative John Frullo, and District 28 Senator Charles Perry. The city yesterday issued a press release stating that a Houston law firm has determined that the ordinance would conflict with state law. (Click here to read the statement)

During the interview Burrows said, while speaking about the city's press release and Lubbock Mayor Dan Pope,

I think it's clear to everybody that this mayor does not want to take a stand for the unborn. I think what bothers me, and the reason I'm calling in, is the charade that we've been put through, that the city felt the need to go all the way down to Houston, well outside, kind of our cultural part of Texas, and find a law firm that specializes in telling cities what they want to hear. They didn't go to a constitutional expert law firm, or a pro-life expert law firm. They went to a law firm that basically does want what mayors want. I think it's a charade...This law firm, it's not a judge, it's not a federal judge, it's not a supreme court ruling...There's been a lot of talk about the constitutionality of it, and I think it's just kind of laughable that all of a sudden this mayor in particular cares about the Constitution, or at least claims he does.

While replying to points made by the city in the press release, Burrows said,

I do believe that at the end of the day...this mayor did not want to pass this ordinance. They were continuing to look for reasons not to have to do this...This opinion, this result, was written before this law firm was ever hired. That's the way I feel about it, and nothing I've seen has changed my mind.

Senator Charles Perry appeared on The Chad Hasty Show in September sharing details about the ordinance, the reasons that he, Frullo and Burrows proposed the ordinance, and talked about the government's obligation to protect unborn lives. (Click here to listen to that interview)

Also discussed by Burrows and Hasty was the hot topic of taxpayer-funded lobbying in Texas.
