A wife of a recently deceased Texas House member has filed for candidacy for his open seat.

Barbara Legler of Pasadena, wife of Ken Legler, announced on Friday that she would be running for the Special Election to be held on November 6, 2012 simultaneously as the November 6th General Elections to fill House District seat 144.

“It is with deep humility, sincerity, and dedication that I officially announce my intention to run for the remaining two months of my husband’s, Ken’s, term,” Mrs. Legler told the What’s Up Pasadena website.

Governor Rick Perry announced the date of the Special Election Friday afternoon and issued an endorsement for Mrs. Legler’s pursuit to fill out her husband’s term.

Ken Leger passed away on June 1, 2012 of a heart attack and served in the Texas House from 2008 until his passing.
