Texas Governor Rick Perry late Friday afternoon set a date for a special election date to fill the unexpired term of recently deceased Rep. Ken Legler.

Perry set Tuesday, November 6, 2012 as the special election date to fill House District 144 which Legler was elected to in 2008.

Legler, a Republican from Pasadena, passed away on June 1st from a heart attack and was known a jokester in the Texas House as he would dress as Colonel Sanders of KFC fame.

Candidate filings for this special election must apply with the Secretary of State no later than on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Early voting for the special election will run fron October 22 until November 2, 2012.

The legislator elected in this special election will serve out the remainder of Legler’s unexpired term.
