In the early hours of Monday, Lubbock Police responded to a hit-and-run in North Lubbock. Police said while investigating the scene, a car drove through the closed road and active police scene leading to a short chase.

The incident occurred sometime after 1:15 a.m. in the 600 block of Ave. Q. Police were actively investigating the area and had identified the suspect vehicle in that hit-and-run as a tan four-door sedan, when a vehicle matching that description "disregarded the closed road and drove northbound through the crime scene endangering several officers," according to a police statement.

Police said the car, driven by Anna Marie Samarripa, refused to stop, which led to a short chase with officers. The vehicle eventually stopped in the parking lot of Popeye's Chicken in the 200 block of University Ave.

Police were able to determine that the car in this incident and the car in the hit-and-run incident were not the same.

Anna Samarripa, 43, was arrested for evading in a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated. Jessica Castaneda, 29, was arrested for public intoxication.

Castaneda was released from the Lubbock County Detention Center just before 7 p.m. Monday. Samarripa remains in the jail in lieu of a $7,500 bail. No attorney has been listed.
