A Texas Tech honor society has won more consecutive awards.

Texas Tech’s chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society, has been named as an Honor Chapter for its activities in 2012 and 2013.

Tech’s chapter has received this honor for nine consecutive years. Since the chapter has earned Honor Chapter status for three consecutive years, they are one of nine chapters nationwide to be confirmed for the Octavio Paz Award. This is the third consecutive triennium that Texas Tech has received the Octavio Paz Award.

Each May, nearly 600 Sigma Delta Pi chapters from across the U.S. submit an annual report outlining their activities and projects from the academic year. Their National Executive Committee chooses between 10 to 15 Honor Chapters annually.

Texas Tech says that Professor Comfort Pratt, Texas Tech’s chapter adviser and current national Sigma Delta Pi vice-president of the Southwest Region, was instrumental in earning the distinctions.
