A League City, Texas, man appeared in federal Court in Lubbock and pleaded guilty to a federal child obscenity offense after a lengthy correspondence with an undercover officer representing the Lubbock City Police Department.

Nilanjan Brahma, 52, pleaded guilty to one count of attempted transfer of obscene materials to a minor on Friday, October 24, and faces a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in federal prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised release.

According to the Department of Justice, Brahma communicated with a person he believed to be a 13-year-old girl through various mediums between April 25, 2011, and February 19, 2012. Brahma allegedly sent obscene photos to the undercover officer posing as the 13-year-old girl.

U.S. District Judge Sam Cummings ordered his customary presentence investigation report to be carried out before setting a sentencing date.

Brahma is currently out on bond.
