Earlier this month, Lubbock Mayor Glen Robertson delivered the annual State of the City Address at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.

While the address was made a few weeks ago, the complete video was only posted earlier this week.

In discussing the state of the city, Mayor Robertson said he was concerned about the future of cotton farming and the potential negative impact on the economy a negative market can have.

He also discussed LEDA, the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance, and said he was pleased with a recent 'shift of direction' for them. "I think you're going to see some really exciting things and hear some exciting news; that we're going to start trying to solve the brain-drain problem of Lubbock, Texas," Robertson said.

"We have one of the finest universities in the country (Texas Tech), we bring these bright young men and women into town, they get educated, and then we don't have jobs for them and they move to Dallas, they move to Houston, they move off. I think you're going to see some tremendous efforts to slow that down and turn that around."

Mayor Robertson also cited Lubbock's continued population growth as a positive for the city, trending at 1.5% annually since 2004.

The mayor's remarks being in earnest at the 20:00 minute mark of the video and you watch the complete address at KFYO.com.
