Homegrown & Homemade Poultry Program Coming Soon to Lubbock
If you are interested in homegrown, 100% organic eggs and hearty food recipes, then this news is for you! The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension for Lubbock County will be hosting their program, Homegrown & Homemade: Backyard Poultry and Cottage Food Production, soon in July. Here are the details you need to know.
Who, What, When, and Where
On Thursday, July 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Lubbock County Extension will host their program on the first floor of the Courthouse Annex on 916 Main Street right here in the Hub City.
Check out the details from the Lubbock County AgriLife Facebook page:
The program is aimed at families and individuals who are interested in learning the ins and outs of backyard poultry, making food products right at home, and understanding cottage food regulations in Texas.
For those entertaining the idea of starting your own coop for a personal supply of fresh eggs, the backyard poultry portion of the program is what you want. This is where you'll learn the following:
- Poultry feeding
- Flock health
- Egg production
- Safe egg handling practices
There will even be a guest appearance from AgriLife Extension Poultry Specialist Dr. Greg Archer to discuss research-backed practical tips for ensuring your flock stays healthy and productive.
When it comes to the legality of selling poultry products in the state, this isn't something you can say, "I'll just wing it." In fact, Texas cottage food law is quite in depth, but thanks to this program coming to Lubbock in July, attendees can learn what can and can't be sold, how the products are marketed, and labeling requirements, among others.
How Much Are Tickets?
Ticketing information can be found on the Eventbrite website, or you can purchase a ticket at the door for $10 extra.
Remember: Thursday, July 23, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 916 Main Street in Lubbock. For more information, you can call the county Extension agents at 806-775-1740.
