Lubbock Is Seeking Host Families for Junior Ambassadors: Are You Interested?
The City of Lubbock has extended an invitation to become host families for one of their most exciting youth programs: the Junior Ambassador international exchange!
Since 1986, Lubbock has been exchanging young students with Musashino City in Japan. As "sister cities," Lubbock and Musashino City have been taking turns sending groups of students overseas as representatives for their host families and the surrounding communities.
This summer, Japanese students will be coming to Lubbock, and the city has asked for interested parties to explore the option of serving as a host family for these eager children!
How to Get Involved with the Junior Ambassador Program
If you are interested in hosting up to two Japanese Junior Ambassadors this summer, then you can send an email to JrAmbassadors@mylubbock.us and wait for your next steps.
Please know that the deadline to apply for hosting is June 26.
How to Be a Junior Ambassador
If your child would like to become a Junior Ambassador and have a chance of spending time with a host family in Japan, then they must complete the Junior Ambassador Program Application.
Your child must be in the 7th, 8th, or 9th grade at the time of travel in order to be eligible.
Once the application has been completed, you and your child must attend an interview consisting of up to 15 questions with a Lubbock city employee panel. The purpose of the interview is to get a better understanding of your child and determine if they'd be a good fit to represent Lubbock overseas with a host family.
A total of 16 students will be selected from the pool of applicants.
You can learn more about the Junior Ambassador program on the City of Lubbock website or by contacting April Chavez (806-775-2382) or Magen Murchison (806-775-2226).
