Lubbock County Reminds Citizens What Is and Isn’t Legal When Lighting Fireworks
America is turning 250 this year! My oh my, where has the time gone. As part of our annual celebrations across this great nation, we've got the hot dogs and the cookouts, but perhaps the one tradition with the biggest bang... fireworks!
As fun as these sticks of dynamite are, Lubbock County is playing the role of responsible parent and sharing what is and is not allowed when playing with boom boom sticks.
Check out this hilarious video starring Lubbock's very own chief of police, Chief Herman:
City Ordinances: Are Fireworks Allowed?
One major limitation is that, depending on where you live in the county, it's actually illegal to light fireworks. This is the case within or near city limits.

Fireworks and Wildfire Risks Don't Mix
I know it's shocking, but explosive fireworks and dry, flammable materials don't exactly go well together. This is another risk that Lubbock County is sharing. Wildfire danger conditions are expected to rise through the beginning of July, so make sure you take the proper precautions to douse any unwanted flames.
Other Rules For Lubbock Fireworks
Finally, you have your standard rules when it comes to celebrating July 4th with fireworks. For instance, you must be at least 16 years of age in order to purchase fireworks without adult supervision.
Also, if you could please be a decent human and pick up any trash and debris left over from your firework celebrations, that would be greatly appreciated.
The only thing a child should do with a firework is watch it go off in the sky from a safe distance with their parents. Otherwise, children under 12 should never be near fireworks as they are being lit. This also includes sparklers, by the way.
