Top Transfer Puts Texas Tech in His Top 5 Destinations

Depending on what service or publication you look at this week, SMU's former star Kendric Davis is the number one prospect left in the transfer portal. The AAC Player of the year has one remaining year of eligibility and is looking to go to a contender who can get him deep into the tournament.

SMU was left out of the tournament last year as one of the biggest snubs because the AAC as a conference gets little respect, could the Big 12 be his next stop?

Davis dropped his top seven on Monday, featuring Texas, Kansas, TCU, Gonzaga, Houston, Memphis, and Texas Tech.

By Wednesday morning, Davis had trimmed that list even further to 5 schools. Texas Tech, Memphis, Kansas, TCU, and Houston remained while Texas and Gonzaga fell off.

More than 40 schools originally reached out to Davis and the guard will make his decision on Friday at 7 pm Central on a podcast through Sports Talk 2319.

The majority believes that Davis is leaning toward Memphis as his destination, which would certainly provide more substance come tourney time than SMU, but it's still in the AAC. Houston is in the same boat but has reached consecutive Elite 8's. Patricia Davis, Kendric's mom, dispelled some of the rumor that Memphis was the clear front-runner saying that notion was 100% false on Twitter.

Davis started his career at TCU for a season before playing three seasons at SMU. He averaged 14 points per game as a sophomore and 19 points per game the last two seasons. He also averaged more than a steal per game and more than five assists per game in his time at SMU.
