Lubbock Native to Compete in 2016 Olympic Trials
On February 13, Olympic Trials for the marathon will be held in Los Angeles, CA and a Lubbock native is going to be there.
Brandon Birdsong-Johnson, a 27 year old graduate of Monterey High School who ran long distance at the University of Texas and Adams State in Colorado has his eyes on the mega prize.
Birdsong-Johnson currently lives in Alamosa, CO, but has returned to the Hub City for his final few weeks of his training.
When asked about what exactly it is Birdsong-Johnson hopes to accomplish, the runner told KAMC News:
"My goal is just being satisfied with my performance, that I gave it the best shot that I could, that I performed up to my ability because if I do perform up to my ability, I will be in the top 15, in the top 10."
The top three finishers at the Feb 13th trials will receive spots on the upcoming Olympic team.
In 2014, Birdsong-Johnson qualified for the marathon by running a half marathon in Houston in a speedy time of 1:04:21.
