The Lubbock area had a big snow day on Tuesday and while much of the snow on city streets and paved areas was melting by the end of the day, there is still a lot of snow on the ground and the possibility that snow that is melting could re-freeze overnight and cause some dangerous driving situations in the morning.

With that, area school districts are playing it safe and allowing more time for students and parents dropping off their kids more time. Lubbock Independent School District announced on Tuesday evening that classes would begin two hours late on Wednesday, January 25.

Lubbock ISD classes are on a two-hour delay tomorrow, Wednesday, January 25 due to the increased likelihood of icy roadways, parking lots, and sidewalks on our campuses. School start times will be adjusted as follows: elementary schools will begin at 9:45 a.m., middle schools will begin at 10:20 a.m., and high schools will begin at 10:15 a.m. Buses will run on a two-hour delay schedule.

Lubbock ISD isn't the only district though. Both Lubbock-Cooper ISD and Frenship ISD will both start two hours late and buses will run on pavement only.

KFYO will keep up with all delays and closures on air and online.
