Texas Tech Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt and Men's Basketball Head Coach Chris Beard have agreed on a new six-year contract announced Monday.

The contract will pay Beard $19,050,000 over the next six seasons, locking him up through the 2023-24 season.

"Coach Beard continues to elevate Texas Tech basketball to a record level of success," Hocutt said. "Under his leadership, our program is going to continue to elevate to an elite level. I am extremely proud of the direction of his program and know that Red Raider Nation joins me in our level of excitement for the future."

Texas Tech finished the regular season ranked 14th, which marks the 9th straight week they are ranked inside the top 15 in the nation. The highest the Red Raiders were ranked was 6th, which came on February 19th.

This was the best regular season in Lubbock since 1996 and also marks the highest Big 12 finish in program history as the no. 2 seed at this week’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships. The Red Raiders avoided the sweep against all Big 12 opponents on their way to that spot.

Texas Tech also hosted College GameDay for the first time in program history against Kansas on February 24th.

According to an aol.com report on the 2017 NCAA Tournament coaches, the nearly $3.2 million dollar per year contract for Chris Beard ranks 3rd in the Big 12 (behind Bill Self and Bob Huggins) and is competitive with the top 10 salaries in the NCAA.
