Almost 5” of snow has fallen in Lubbock as of 12:30p. Also 15” of snow has been measured in Tulia and 17” of snow has been recorded in Amarillo today, along with wind gusts up to 75 mph.

Texas Tech University has delayed the start of Tuesday classes until 11am. Staff should report on campus tomorrow at 10:30am

Lubbock ISD has announced that classes for Tuesday will be delayed by 2 hours.  If conditions worsen during the overnight hours, LISD may cancel classes for a second consecutive day. All Saints in Lubbock will start classes at 10a tomorrow. Lubbock-Cooper ISD has delayed classes for 2 hours tomorrow and buses will on pavement and caliche roads. Brownfield ISD has delayed classes by 2 hours for Tuesday.

US Highway 84 in Hockley County has been reopened after a morning accident was cleared.  US Highway 62/82 in Crosby County, east of Crosbyton, is currently closed after a tractor-trailer accident. US Highway 62/82 has been closed from Lubbock to Brownfield due to hazardous conditions. Whiteout conditions are currently present along the US Highway 70 corridor from Floydada to Matador. Other closures include the North Loop in Lubbock and I-27 from Lubbock to Amarillo. DPS is reporting over 100 vehicles stopped between Mile Marker 9 and Mile Marker 12 on I-27 near New Deal.

People in both the South Plains and Panhandle are urged to not drive and stay off the roads because of the worsening conditions.

Governor Rick Perry has activated Texas Military Forces to assist South Plains and Panhandle governments during the on-going blizzard. Nine high-profile vehicles will be sent to Amarillo, Pampa, Childress and Lubbock to assist local first responders.

The South Plains Mall will close at 5p today. Also, The 50 Yard Line will be closed as well.

The Texas Tech Rec Center will close at 7p tonight.

Bell Helicopter in Amarillo, tells KFYO News their Second and Third Shifts are cancelled for tonight.

United Supermarkets has announced that all of its Amarillo stores will close at 6p. Their Canyon location will close at 4p. United locations in Dalhart, Borger, Perryton, Pampa and Dumas will all close at 5p. United stores in Plainview will close at 7 o’clock tonight.
