Here are just a few things in Chad’s Pile that you will hear on Lubbock’s First News this morning. Give Chad your feedback on the steaming topics.

1. Now Democrats say no (link)

Could the United Nations put restrictions on America's gun owners? The answer is yes and Republicans and now even Democrats are urging the President not to go along with it. According to U.S. News:

The U.N. Arms Trade Treaty, which the Bush administration had opposed, would regulate with the international trade of arms. It would cover the trading of conventional firearms likes those used by collectors and sportsmen and women. The goal of the treaty is to come up with internationally recognized rules governing the trade of guns and ammo. The United States is the world's largest exporter of arms.

That doesn't sound good and now lawmakers are speaking out. According to the report:

Twelve Democratic senators have joined 45 Republicans in a fast growing movement to halt progress on an Obama-backed United Nations effort that could bring international gun control into the United States and slap America's gun owners with severe restrictions.

Let's hope this UN treaty doesn't go through.

2. Republicans turn from Boehner  (link)

The debt battle continues and it looks as though Speaker Boehner's debt plan might be dead. According to the Washington Times:

House Republicans do not have enough support to pass their debt-ceiling increase plan on their own, a top conservative said Tuesday as his party’s leaders tried to cobble together a coalition of Republicans and Democrats to put the bill over the top.

“There are not 218 Republicans in support of this plan,” Rep. Jim Jordan, an Ohio Republican who heads the powerful conservative caucus in the House, told reporters Tuesday morning.

This means that Boehner needs Democrats to get on board with his plan. Not sure that will happen.

3. We are alone (link)

Are we alone in the universe? Probably so. A new report from space.com says that it might only be a dream that there is intelligent life somewhere other than Earth.  Of course, sometimes I think that there just isn't that much intelligent life here on Earth.
