Here are just a few things in Chad’s Pile that you will hear on Lubbock’s First News this morning. Give Chad your feedback on the steaming topics.

1. The NAACP is angry (link)

Well I predicted this would happen. Yesterday the NAACP in Dallas decided that they were angry about the app referred to as the "Avoid The Ghetto" app. Microsoft has developed the tool to help drivers and pedestrians avoid unsafe neighborhoods. According to CBS DFW,

“I’m going to be up in arms about it if it happens,” said Dallas NAACP President Juanita Wallace.

Wallace spent her afternoon at a rally on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and said she felt safe there, but fears the app may project otherwise.

“Can you imagine me not being able to go to MLK Blvd. because my GPS says that’s a dangerous crime area? I can’t even imagine that,” she said.

Microsoft says the app will use crime statistics to determine what parts of town are to be avoided. But it’s unclear where the data will come from and how it will be interpreted.

Microsoft has filed a patent for the app, but the actual product is unnamed and not available yet.

Opponents like Wallace fear it could hurt minority communities.

“It’s almost like gerrymandering,” she said. “It’s stereotyping for sure and without a doubt; I can’t emphasize enough, it’s discriminatory.”

Here is yet another example of the NAACP being way off base. Instead of being upset that a neighborhood is actually ghetto and has a high crime rate, they get upset that someone has called them out on it. Instead of actually doing something to better the neighborhood, they cry racism. Sorry Juanita, stats are stats. Instead of complaining about stereotypes and racism, how about you actually do something to clean up the neighborhood? I guess that would take real work though, wouldn't it?

2. Another GOP debate

Good news everyone, there is another GOP debate tonight! This time the candidates will slug it out on CNN, and if the rumors are true CNN will actually let the candidates loose. Should be interesting to watch. If Newt has another huge performance tonight, he could win South Carolina.

Any predictions?

3. Dumb story of the morning (link)

Here is your dumb story of the morning, and as an extra bonus it’s Obama related... again!

President Obama announced Wednesday that he will deny a permit for the Keystone XL pipeline, blaming Republicans for imposing a "rushed and arbitrary deadline" which he said did not give officials enough time.

GOP lawmakers immediately excoriated the president for the decision. House Speaker John Boehner said Obama is "selling out American jobs for politics," and said Republicans in Congress would continue to push for the pipeline.

Obama the jobs killer.
