Lubbock Power and Light and their wholesale electricity provider Xcel Energy are asking consumers to conserve electricity today.

The companies ask that customers conserve electricity through 7 p.m.

“Lubbock is part of a regional electric grid covering the South Plains and Panhandle region,” said LP&L’s Chris Sims. “This electrical grid is managed by Xcel Energy, and they have asked for assistance in urging everyone in the region to conserve electricity in a proactive approach to grid stability.”

To help conserve electricity, use large appliances in the morning or late in the evenings, and ensure that home and business air conditioner filters are clean, as well as turning off unneeded lights, computers, and appliances.

LP&L says the conservation period extends through the weekend, unless conditions improve.
