Lubbock Police Officer Hurt at Traffic Stop

A Lubbock police officer is injured trying to arrest a driver for a traffic violation. The incident occurred yesterday around 4 p.m. after the officer stopped a man who ran a red light near the intersection of 65th and Avenue Q around 4:00 p.m.
Police said officers were trying to frisk the man when he pulled out a gun and started running. Witnesses told KAMC-28 that officers chased the suspect, caught up with him and began hitting him.
Two witnesses say the suspect was tazed. Police say one of the officers injured his knee and was taken to the hospital. Police and a K-9 dog found drug paraphernalia during a search of the suspect’s vehicle.
The names of the suspect and the officer were not immediately released.
