The Lubbock Police Department will hold an event this weekend to commemorate a day aimed to remind parents of child safety.

The community event will be held in recognition of National Missing Children’s Day, and will be held on Saturday, May 25th at the South Plains Mall.

Lubbock police officers will be in the east parking lot of the mall near Slide Road and Olive Garden from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

During that time, officers will be available to discuss child safety and provide information to parents on ways to talk with their children about safety.

Fingerprint kits will also be available for parents as well, and officers can help with fingerprinting and filling out information.

LPD motorcycle officers, K-9 officers, and Mounted Patrol will also be at the event throughout the day.

May 25th has been observed as National Missing Children’s Day since 1983, and commemorates the anniversary of the day in 1979 when six-year-old Etan Patz disappeared from a New York street corner on his way to school.
