A winter storm watch is in effect for the South Plains.

The National Weather Service has issued the winter storm watch, which will be in effect from 6 a.m. Thursday, December 5th through Noon on Friday, December 6th.

The watch is in effect for a majority of the South Plains, including Parmer, Childress, Kent, Yoakum, and Lubbock Counties. The watch also extends into the Big Country region.

The NWS says that the main impact of the storm will likely be accumulating ice from freezing drizzle, freezing rain, and sleet. The potential also exists for several inches of snowfall in the northwestern South Plains and southern Texas Panhandle.
