Over the course of a year, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has issued 35 fines and warnings to Lubbock-area establishments for serving alcohol to minors, after-hours consumption and other infractions.

KAMC News reports that there have been 35 fines and warnings since August of 2021. The most frequent establishment to receive citations was Kong's at 1707 Texas Avenue.

Apparently, Kong's was cited twice for serving minors and once for consuming alcohol after hours since last year. Miguel's at 2006 Broadway Street also received 2 citations for serving alcohol to minors. Other establishments to receive citations were Buddy's at 518 50th Street, Bubba's 33 at 6210 Slide Road, The Garden at 1801 Buddy Holly Avenue, Pregame Daquiris at 2668 34th Street, La Iguana Loca at 417 Frankford and many more.

Just one violation is bad enough for most businesses, but with so many receiving multiple, what gives?

Chris Porter with the TABC says that violations happen more frequently in areas with major universities like Texas Tech, and that Lubbock doesn't actually have any more frequent violations than any other areas with major universities.

The TABC will be conducting enhanced operations this year through mid-September to ensure compliance as school is back in session. Agents will be monitoring entrances to bars to check for fake IDs and will even be sending in minors that will try to buy drinks to see if businesses are serving alcohol to minors.
