West Texas Among Worst Alcohol Violators in State

West Texas alcohol retailers could be among the worst in the state for selling to minors, with one offender, Ravi’s Mart, located in Lubbock County.

Ninety-one percent of 933 locations visited complied with checking and enforcing the drinking age with the least violations in the Dallas/Fort Worth region at a 7.6 percent non-compliance rate. The highest percentage of violations were found in the Houston/Galveston region at a 20 percent non-compliance rate.

West Texas, including Lubbock, El Paso and Amarillo, also had a high failure rate, 16 percent, but also had the least establishments visited at 67 -- well below the average for the other regions, 186.

Calls made to Ravi Mart, located in the 3300 block of 4^th Street, were answered and immediately hung up.
