Even a successful football player needs a drink once in a while. Former Texas Tech Red Raider and current NFL free agent Wes Welker was recently in Lubbock, surprising pretty much everyone.

Could you imagine the amount of wind energy created by all the double takes? One woman, however, did more than just gawk.

Annette Castellanoa, a director at Special Olympics Lubbock, ran into the football star "on a fluke" while hanging out at the Overton's bar with friends.

"He was very sweet and open to talking to everyone," Castellanoa told 1340 The Fan. Welker was also nice enough to sign some things for the group.

You can see the photos from their meeting with Welker in the gallery above.

Following his time with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, Welker played for the San Diego Chargers, Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Denver Broncos and St. Louis Rams.

During his stint in Lubbock, Welker received the Mosi Tatupu Award for best specials teams player and tied an NCAA record for most punt return touchdowns (eight). He also notched school records for most career all-purpose yards (5,370) and receiving yards (3,069) with 259 receptions.
