A video that has gone viral on social media has sparked the Lubbock Police Department to launch an official internal investigation the department announced on Thursday. The officer in the video was placed on paid administrative leave on Thursday.

According to the Lubbock Police Department, the video was discovered on Wednesday evening and it shows a Lubbock Police Officer "in the process of making an arrest at a local park". Lubbock Police had received calls about a subject in the park who may need attention. At 7:33 a.m. Lubbock Police located 48 year old Mary Ramirez in a park in the 2400 block of Avenue Q. According to Lubbock Police Ramirez appeared to be intoxicated and was rolling around in the grass.

The video posted online only shows a small piece of the arrest and what happened after. According to Lubbock Police the video shows Ramirez in handcuffs and the officer pulling her to his vehicle.

The video, which shows Ramirez in handcuffs, also shows the officer pulling her by the hands and arms to his patrol vehicle. Ramirez was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center and booked without incident on charges of Public Intoxication and Resisting Arrest. Neither Ramirez nor the officer reported any injuries. The Lubbock Police Department’s Office of Professional Standards is currently investigating the video and the circumstances surrounding the arrest to determine if there were any policy violations. The officer was placed on administrative leave Thursday morning.
