Lubbock Citizens Are Getting Scammed, Law Enforcement Now Speaking Out
Lubbock Citizens are being warned not to become victims of scams that are currently going around targeting citizens. The warnings are for two different scams and they have both the Lubbock Police Department and the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department out warning people.
According to KAMC, the Lubbock Police Department is now warning people about a phone scam that involves a person pretending to be an officer. According to the Lubbock Police, this person claims to be Sergeant Chris Miller and is telling people they have warrants out and they need to pay.
Lubbock Police confirmed to KAMC that they do have a Sergeant Miller, the person calling is not with the Lubbock Police. Lubbock Police say they would never contact people to they owe money.
The Lubbock County Sheriff's Office is dealing with a scammer as well. KAMC reports that the Lubbock County Sheriff's Department began warning people that scammers are calling residents and posing as Sheriff Deputies and demanding payments to clear warrants.
The Lubbock County Sheriff's Department says they also would never ask for payment over the phone.
When in doubt, remember to hang up and call local authorities to see if the call was real.
