Texas Tech Red Raider basketball has smashed the competition in recent games, advancing up the ranks so much that they are currently no. 13 in the Associated Press Top 25. Not only this, but they also sit at no. 12 in USA Today’s Coaches Poll.

Raider Power!

According to a recent release from the Texas Tech Basketball website, the Red Raiders can thank their impressive ranking to the recent six-game win streak, skyrocketing them up the list.

Following the game against Houston on Feb. 1, TTU men's basketball has scored 793 points total, sitting at 17 and 4 in the season thus far, and a comfortable 8 and 2 in the Big 12.  Throw in the fact that they sat undefeated in away games and only 11 and 2 in home games, and you’ve got yourself a spotlight team.

Texas Tech’s Heated Game Against Houston

The Red Raider’s impressive stats come just days after a highly controversial game against the leader of the Big 12 Houston Cougars on Feb. 1.

During the opening minutes of the first quarter, number 15 JT Toppin was called for a Flagrant 2 foul (extreme contact with another player) and the refs ejected the lead scorer for the remainder of the game. Allegedly, Toppin kicked a Houston player in the groin and after review, he was sent to the locker room to sit out the rest of the game.

TTU’s Head Coach McCasland took issue with this call and emerged onto the court to confront the refs. This is when he, too, was ejected from the game after receiving two technical fouls.

See for yourself what happened with this clip from ESPN. Do you think the refs were wrong to eject Toppin?

Texas Tech Athletic Director, Kirby Hocutt took to X shortly after the double ejection occurred:
