One of the world's most prolific and acclaimed film score composers has passed away in Rome at the age of 91 while being treated for injuries sustained in a fall.

Ennio Morricone, who composed music for hundreds of movies and won an Oscar for his soundtrack in Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight, was most famous for his scores in Sergio Leone’s Italian westerns A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, all starring Clint Eastwood.

Morricone's iconic composition "The Ecstasy of Gold" from the film The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (heard above) is one of the most instantly recognizable pieces of music ever written, is still being used in modern day commercials, and is the closing music for KFYO's own Chad Hasty Show.

Morricone may have passed on, but his music will certainly live on for decades, if not centuries to come.
