Texas Tech University is planning to hold their August 2020 commencement ceremony online instead of in-person. That’s according to a news release from Texas Tech, which explains that a virtual ceremony will put less people at risk of contracting COVID-19.

Normally, commencement ceremonies are held at the United Supermarkets Arena. However, the school says social distancing inside the area would be extremely difficult if not impossible to manage.

Texas Tech says they won’t consider an outdoor ceremony in August because it may be too hot for students to be outside. Instead, there will be a virtual graduation ceremony on Saturday, August 8th at 9:30 a.m.
