In case you didn't know, there's a new brand of football in Lubbock, Texas.

Texas Tech Football now plays 60 minutes of football, as this highlight reel from their game against Kansas proves:

Now, technically, Texas Tech has always played 60 minutes of football. The thing worth celebrating here, especially for die-hard Texas Tech fans, is that the team doesn't run out of steam halfway through a game anymore, then give up a ton of points in the second half. That's something long-time fans have bemoaned for the past few years.

The team has turned a corner -- specifically, its defense. In 2018 Big 12 conference play (so far), the Texas Tech defense has allowed just 27 points in the second half.

But the team's offense has also overcome adversity.

After an opening game swerve that left QB McLane Carter injured, head coach Kliff Kingsbury went with True Freshman Alan Bowman, who was a standout for a few games before also being injured and missing the TCU game. Third-string QB Jett Duffey helped Texas Tech secure a hard-fought win against TCU, before Bowman made his big return for a Homecoming win against Kansas.

Other starter injuries have also plagued Texas Tech, but the team's dog mentality and 'finish' motto have kept them fighting.

Texas Tech heads into the final five games of the 2018 season with a 5-2 overall record. Their next game is against Iowa State (3-3) in Ames, with a bowl game berth for the Red Raiders on the line.

The game is slated for an 11 a.m. kickoff on ESPN2. SportsRadio 1340 The Fan will air Countdown to Kickoff with Rob Breaux and Karson Robinson from 9 -11 a.m. Listen on the air (1340 AM), online or with the free 1340 The Fan app.
