Texas Tech named Associate Head Coach Chris Walker interim Head Coach of the Red Raiders Basketball program. Walker takes over a Texas Tech program which finished 8-23 last season and will have their third head coach in as many seasons.

The announcement came at press conference with Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt saying of Walker,

“Chris Walker has demonstrated tremendous leadership over the past month, enabling our basketball program to move forward. His ability to lead and manage the current situation has been very commendable.

Above all else, he has placed the well-being of the young men on our team at the forefront of his energy and focus.  I am confident in his ability to lead our program forward.”

Walker takes over for Billy Gillispie who resigned on September 19th after spending a short time at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and facing allegations of player mistreatment.

Walker said of taking over as head coach,

“I am excited about our team and what we can accomplish this season. We will have a great attitude and play hard, play together, play smart and play with pride every time we step on the floor.

Some will measure our success with how many wins we have, but we will measure our success by how hard we will play for the name on the front the jersey.”

Texas Tech starts the season November 9th hosting Prairie View A&M.
