The Red Raiders got off to a slow start in recruiting due to the COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions related to the pandemic. With visits now open again, head football coach Matt Wells and company have locked four commitments in just over a week.

They aren't done either. I'd expect a commitment or two more by the 4th of July. Maybe even this weekend, with a big recruiting weekend being teased.

Back to the players who have committed.

Last week, both Hut Graham and Kaden Weatherby both committed to Matt Wells' team. Both are three-star guys. Graham was listed as an athlete and will probably play defensive back for the Red Raiders. Weatherby is a 6'6" offensive lineman from Colorado.

The second two commits came a week later with the 2022 class getting a big boost of speed. Running back Bryson Donnell and Tyler King both committed on the same day. Both have the potential to be playmakers at Texas Tech. King especially, because he has track star speed at 5'10" with the ability to play inside and outside at receiver.

King plays at Alief Taylor in Houston and is heading into his senior season. The under-recruited speedster holds 12 offers at the moment, with Texas Tech being his only Power 5 offer so far. He also has offers from Memphis, Houston, North Texas and UTSA.

In his junior season, Donnell performed above average in one of the tougher districts in the state at the highest level of 6A. He totaled 1,134 yards and 11 touchdowns on just 155 carries in 2020 season, earning him first-team all-district honors. Donnell also scored 11 touchdowns as a sophomore. He committed to Texas Tech over Colorado, Houston, Purdue, Arkansas and Kansas. He holds 17 offers at the time of his commitment.
