In an offseason that has been more closed off than most in regards to seeing the team practice the Texas Tech football team drew back the curtain a little bit today with a mic'd up video of the head coach, Matt Wells, at practice.

It's not Texas Tech's fault the practices have been so closed off. The safety of the players and the creation of a bubble-type atmosphere is much more important than a couple of beat-writers getting a scoop. That being said, all of the videos that do come out of the closed practices have been very polished.

That's expected, you're not going to put a bunch of botches out when you can control the product. That doesn't mean that the Texas Tech social media accounts don't show failures too. I guess you can argue every touchdown or turnover is a failure on either the offense or defense as much as they are a success.

One thing the all of the produced videos have had in common is that they are overly energetic. The mic'd up Matt Wells feature is no different.

The head man opens the sprinting on to the field screaming about having a great day and he never stops talking, coaching, teaching, and encouraging. Something I noticed is that Wells can seamlessly coach the special teams, offense, and defense, which is something not every coach can do. Wells also checks in with some guys on if they are going to class or not and praises the snack choice of a strawberry pomegranate chew.

Wells closes the practice saying the maturity of the team is improving and invoking the name of the late Tommy McVay when encouraging the team to be better encouragers.
