Texas Braces For Snow, Rain, Hail, Tornadoes and Other Severe Weather

It's going to be a crazy day or two of weather across the Lone Star State. Portions of Texas will be dealing with the threat of severe weather, while others will just get some good rain, and others will see a mix of rain and snow.

All of this is expected to happen over the next couple of days according to forecasts.

Snow in Amarillo and Lubbock in April?

You might think it's late for snow, and sure I guess it is. But I've seen it snow around Easter before in Lubbock so I'm not surprised. In fact, the latest snowfall recorded in Lubbock was 1.4" on April 12, 1980.

Friday is forecasted to be a rainy day off and on throughout the Panhandle and South Plains. For those in Lubbock, most of the day will be overcast with more rain moving in tonight and Saturday morning.

This is when it gets interesting for both the Panhandle and Lubbock areas. Rain will begin mixing with snow tomorrow morning according to the National Weather Service. I've seen predictions anywhere from 1 to 3 inches (and even higher) of snow in the Lubbock area. The ground is warm, so we are likely to see a lot of wet, mushy stuff on the ground. But if it snows higher amounts, we could see more accumulation. The latest forecasts for rain/snow in Lubbock show chances anywhere from 96% to 100% which is pretty rare for a Spring event.

Severe Weather in Texas Through Saturday

Friday is bringing a chance of severe weather to parts of Texas. In fact, portions of Northeast Texas including Tyler, Longview, Paris, and Texarkana have a moderate risk of tornadoes today and even into Saturday.

A large swath of the state is in danger of seeing hail Friday and even into Saturday morning according to a map released from the Texas Storm Chasers.

The greatest threat of tornadoes is further east and north outside of Texas.
