Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Julie Gerstenberger of South Plains College (SPC) gave details on the upcoming Scholarship Golf Scramble fundraiser that will benefit scholarship recipients.

The 111th Annual SPC Scholarship Scramble will be held on June 2 this year at the Lubbock Country Club. Check-in and lunch will begin at 11 a.m. and tee time begins at 12:30 p.m. The event will conclude with refreshments and a brief award ceremony around 4 p.m. There is still room for teams to sign up for the even by contacting Julie Gerstenberger at (806) 894-9611.

All funds raised through this event will go toward scholarships.Gerstenberger said the scholarship has been able to award over half a million to students through scholarships. The college anticipates a total award of $600,000 this year. She said, "We're always trying to feed the base of our earnings." Gerstenberger noted the benefits of SPC is that it draws all kinds of unique students and offers more trade-based programs that might not be as extensive at larger universities.
