Right now in Texas you can't buy a car from Tesla Motors. Tesla sells their cars direct from the manufacturer to the consumer. No dealerships are involved and in Texas that is illegal. According to the Dallas Morning News, a bill that would change the rules is in dangers of stalling.

A bill allowing electric carmaker Tesla to sell directly to Texas customers may stall in committee.

The dealership industry, which traditionally has a strong lobbying presence, came out in force to oppose the bill, saying Tesla just doesn’t want to play by the rules.

Bill author Rep. Eddie Rodriguez, D-Austin, who filed a similar measure last session, said the current system requiring manufacturers to partner with dealerships is antiquated and amounts to an unfair monopoly that limits competition.
