Sanders Discusses Mayoral Campaign, Defends Controversial Statements [INTERVIEW]
Tuesday on The Chad Hasty Show, Stephen Sanders joined Chad in the KFYO studio to talk about issues in his candidacy for mayor of Lubbock.
Sanders and Hasty discussed several issues that are front and center in the race, including the coronavirus crisis and closures of businesses in the city, plans for the reopening of a Planned Parenthood location in Lubbock, controversial statements made in the past by Sanders, and more.
Hasty asked about several statements that Sanders made on issues in the past, including this July 2019 post from Facebook:
During his answer, Sanders said, "I was trying to figure out where I was...The propaganda that is put out on social media has been very strong. I had to take some initiative to go and find out some things on my own, through sources that are not skewed and misleading. So when I did that, I was able to find out a lot about where I want to be and what I stand for. And then when I started looking at the things that Trump has done for the Black community, like lowering the unemployment rate to three percent at one point. There's been no president that has ever done that for the Black community, ever. And I hadn't done all of my research yet."
While speaking about the proposed opening of a Planned Parenthood location in Lubbock, Sanders said,
I support the ordinance that Senator Perry and Representatives Burrows and Frullo have put forth...We put those people [Planned Parenthood] out thirteen years ago, and they left, and they are trying to sneak back in, and that's something that I will never, never, ever be ok with.
