Monday, May 23, the City of Plainview Police Department will launch an annual "click it or ticket" campaign.

As Memorial Day travels approach, police want to remind citizens that buckling up doesn’t just prevent citations, it also saves lives.

The statewide campaign aimed at increasing the use of seat belts will run until June 5.

During this period, Plainview police will make a report to the state that will include statistics on traffic citations and arrests per the campaign.

Plainview police Sergeant William Bridgewater told KAMC News:

This Memorial Day, May 30th, while we honor the sacrifices of those who served our country, let's also remember to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe. Based on totals from TxDOT, 3,534 people lost their lives on Texas roadways in 2014.  That's one person killed every two and a half hours. Plainview Police will be issuing citations to both drivers and passengers, and don't forget to use those child safety seats. Let's keep Plainview safe this holiday.
