Patrick Mahomes Wasn’t at the Texas Tech-Texas Game, But These Celebrities Were

The Texas Tech-Texas game was something people have been wanting to see since Chris Beard left in April 2021. And on Tuesday night, it finally happened.

There was a lot of speculation on who would show up for the game. Many people were hoping Patrick Mahomes would be one of those people. Unfortunately, the Chiefs' QB1 did not make it to the game, but there are some other celebrities who did.

Tariq Owens

The first one we had to shoutout and I had to get a picture with was Tariq Owens. He's a professional basketball player who played college basketball for the Red Raiders until 2019. He received Big 12 Conference All-Defensive Team and Big 12 Conference Honorable Mention accolades during his time in Lubbock. We all love him and were lucky we didn't sit behind him at the game. Thanks for coming, Tariq!

Koe Wetzel

Another face you might recognize that kinda snuck his way into the game was Koe Wetzel. The country/rock and roll singer-songwriter of rock and country that flew in just for the game. He even has a song called "Lubbock" you should go check out. Sorry I missed you, Koe!

Joey McGuire and Ric Flair

Obviously, we all know Joey McGuire. Texas Tech's new head football coach wouldn't miss the game. Along with McGuire came Ric Flair to help pump up the crowd. It was definitely fun to watch them and hear the wrestling legend on the mic. They definitely did a great job of making everyone excited but reminding everyone to be safe.

Jeff Goodman

Sports fans will get excited for this one. Jeff Goodman, a basketball analyst who used to be on ESPN, CBS and FOX, was also at the game. He got to see what the true Lubbock experience was like. He later said it was impressive.

Krista Gerlich

Another face a lot of basketball fans might recognize is Krista Gerlich. She has a special place here in Lubbock, not only from her time playing for the Lady Raiders, but as the team's new head coach. She was a part of the Lady Raiders basketball team in 1992–93 who won the NCAA championship with the legendary Sheryl Swoopes and beloved head coach, Marsha Sharp.

Gerlich came back to the Red Raiders in 2020 to take over the women's basketball program.
