On Wednesday, December 23rd, the Texas Department of Public Safety released information concerning a deadly crash that happened in Howard County all the way back on Saturday, December 12th.

KAMC News reports that the crash happened at around 9:15 p.m. on US Highway 87, roughly 18 miles south of Lamesa near Ackerly.

It's reported that a semi-truck, which was pulling a trailer, was heading southbound on the highway when the driver attempted to make a U-turn. However, the semi-truck and trailer became stuck, obstructing the northbound lanes of the highway.

It was then that the trailer was struck by a northbound SUV, which was driven by 79-year-old Quinton Elonzo Airhart of Ackerly, who died as a result of the crash. Whether or not he died at the scene or later on due to the injuries he sustained has not been specified by the report DPS released around 11 days after the actual accident had occurred.

There were two other occupants in the SUV, 75-year-old Gayland Kent Airhart and 74-year-old Donna Warren Airhart. Both occupants from Lamesa were transported to Medical Arts Hospital with incapacitating injuries. Their current statuses remain unknown as of the writing of this article.

The driver of the semi-truck, whose identity has not been released to the public, is reported to have been uninjured in the crash.
