What Does the New iWatch Reporting System Do from Texas DPS?
The Texas Department of Public Safety has recently launched a new feature for combatting foreign harassment. They clearly took a page from Apple devices when coming up with a name... it's called the iWatchTexas Community Reporting System. Isn't the iWatch a thing already? Oh well.
What is iWatchTexas?
According to Texas Gov. Abbott, the state's top priority is to maintain the safety and security of all citizens. In keeping up with these efforts, Gov. Abbott had the Texas Suspicious Activity Reporting Network (iWatchTexas) website built.
This site is where Texans from all over the state can report any suspicious behavior they witness that may entail criminal, terroristic, or school safety-related threats.
Before you ask, no, you can't just throw whatever claim you want at the site with nothing to go off of besides a small inkling of yours. They actually require you to fill out a report that takes a few minutes to complete. This report is then thoroughly reviewed by analysts who may follow up with a phone call to gather more info from you.
What is the New Feature That Has Abbott so Excited?
According to Texas DPS, the new iWatchTexas feature "will allow Texans to report any threats from hostile foreign adversaries who wish to undermine the public safety and national security of Texas."
So, to reiterate, iWatchTexas is NOT an option for the following:
- Reporting emergencies (call 911 instead)
- Submitting tips on wanted fugitives
- Reporting your ex-girlfriend who completely disrespects your vintage bubble gum wrapper collection
