One man has been charged with attempted capital murder after reportedly beating two women and taking aim at an officer.

Lubbock Police were called to the 3300 block of Duke Street in north Lubbock at around 4:30 p.m. Friday, January 17th after receiving reports that a man with a gun was threatening residents in the area.

According to Lubbock Police, when Officer Daniel Merritt arrived, 33-year-old Daniel Moreno reportedly raised a gun and aimed it at Merritt.

The officer fired at Moreno and wounded him.

Just moments later, officers found two female victims that they originally believed were shot by Moreno.

The victims, 33-year-old Sarah Garcia and 39-year-old Cynthia Hernandez Ramirez, were taken to University Medical Center. Police later determined that the female victims had been severely beaten by the suspect, but had not been shot.

Moreno was taken to UMC with life-threatening injuries.

He is charged with one count of Attempted Capital Murder and two counts of Aggravated Assault.

Moreno remains at University Medical Center.
