Nine Tech Track and Field Athletes to Compete in National Meet
Led by high jumpers Ja’Corian Duffied and Bradley Adkins, who finished 1-2 in the NCAA Outdoor Championships at Hayward Field two weeks ago, nine current Red Raider athletes will participate in the U.S. Track and Field Championship Thursday-Sunday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
The national championships serve as qualifier for several high-level meets including this summer’s IAAF World Outdoor Championships and Pan American Championships.
Former Lubbock Coronado high jumper Trey Culver, who finished 11th in the NCAA meet, will join his teammates in Eugene and compete in the junior division. Freshman middle distance runner Todd Mickey will also compete in the junior division.
Joseph Richards III, who spent most of the outdoor season with a top 10 collegiate time, is going to compete in the 400-meter dash.
On the women’s side, first team All-American Cierra White will lead the way and look to qualify in the sprint events. At last year's meet, White qualified for the U-23 NACAC Championships where she won three gold medals and earned U.S. Track & Field Association (USATF) Athlete of the Week honors.
Texas Tech school-record holder Hannah Carson, who finished second in the NCAAs, will compete in the javelin.
Paetyn Revell, coming off a performance where she earned All-American honorable mention honors, will be in the triple jump event, and Shanice Stewart who earned All-American honors in both indoor long jump and pentathlon events will make the trip to Eugene to compete.
A livestream of the event will be available on usatf.tv for all four days of the competition.
NBC Sports Network (Suddenlink channel 45) will provide coverage from 9-11 p.m. Friday (June 26). NBC (KCBD Channel 11, Suddenlink Cable channel 3) will broadcast the event from 3-5 p.m. Saturday, and from 2-5 p.m. Sunday.
