Man Shot by Lubbock Police Gets 18 Years in Prison for Robbery
A Lubbock man that pointed a gun at police and ended up being shot because of it has pleaded guilty to an aggravated robbery charge.
KAMC News reports that back on August 13th of 2018, now 23-year-old Isaac Wquayshawn Knighten met officers at the door of a game room at 39th Street and Avenue A. Officers were responding for reports of an armed robbery.
Knighten is said to have pointed a firearm at officers and was shot multiple times. He was transported to University Medical Center with critical injuries, but was transferred to the Lubbock County Detention Center a month later. That's where he has remained since.
The second suspect in the robbery, 23-year-old Jelani Ashley, was arrested a few days after the incident. He currently remains in jail on bonds totaling over $100,000.
Knighten pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery and was sentenced to 18 years in prison. However, the 3 years that Knighten has already spent in jail count towards his sentence. He will also be eligible for parole in 6 years.
