Lubbock Police Department Releases Details of Deadly Shooting

Nineteen-year-old David Ruth was arrested over the weekend and charged with the murder of 17-year-old Darrean Nichols.
According to police, Ruth shot and injured both Nichols and 18-year-old Brianna Garza the morning of Friday, April 24th, 2020, in the 200 block of Avenue S during a drug deal.
Garza was shot in the arm, but managed to drive herself and Nichols to her brother’s house in the 1700 block of East 1st Place.
When police arrived, they found Nichols severely injured in the passenger seat of Garza’s car. Unable to find a pulse, EMS took him to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Ruth has been booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center for murder on a $150,000 bond.
