A Lubbock man might spend the rest of his life in prison for a fatal 2020 crash.  31-year-old Benjamin Mitchell was involved in a vehicle crash that occurred in the 4600 block of Avenue Q in 2020.

Mitchell was on trial for the death of 40-year-old Anthony Childers and 31-year-old Barbara Mitchell. Mitchell had been released from prison after engaging Lubbock police in a police chase while he had various drugs and children in the vehicle. This is also after Mitchell was wanted by Marshalls on other charges and eventually arrested in Michigan before being transported to Lubbock.

KAMC news reports that it was revealed during the court proceedings that Mitchell had been going over 100 mph down Avenue Q the night of that crash. Mitchell had also been out drinking before the crash at a few local bars leading up to the crash. The trial was presided over by State District Judge McClendon who had a lot of words and comments to make towards Mitchell during the trial.
