Lubbock Duo Arrested for Murder after Fake 911 Call
A man and woman in Lubbock were recently arrested and charged with murder, but not before they made a fake emergency call in attempts to cover their tracks.
Lubbock Homicide Suspects
On February 21 at about 8:30 in the evening, Lubbock dispatch received a call about a robbery in progress at the 1900 block of 21st street, according to a release from the Lubbock Police Department.
Officers arrived on the scene, but here's the catch: Everything Lubbock noted that the caller did not provide the full information on the "robbery", and of the info that was provided, some of it conflicted with itself.
Dispatch attempted about five times to contact the original caller for more info, but never got back in touch. You see, when officers arrived to the location of the alleged robbery, they found no sign that this crime was committed.
What officers DID find was an open door at the back of the home. Upon entering, they found a woman, 28-year-old Britany Blakely, unresponsive on the floor. Upon further investigation, and as EMS arrived, responders discovered that Blakely was shot. She was declared dead at the scene.
Blakely's Death in Lubbock
According to the release, Blakely was involved in an argument with 19-year-old Ariyah Jimenez and 26-year-old Nathaniel Moreno. As tensions rose, Jimenez eventually produced a firearm and shot Blakely.
Following their arrest, Jimenez and Moreno informed police that they hid the gun outside of the home before fleeing to a nearby alley where Jimenez made the fake 911 call. That was when she lied to the dispatcher and claimed that two men attempted to rob her and Moreno.
The duo allegedly left Blakely alone following the attack, and each was charged with murder. Both Moreno and Jimenez were sent to the Lubbock County Detention Center each on a $250,000 bond.
